Tributes have been paid to a man who died after slipping into a slurry pit in Co Kerry on Monday. The tragedy unfolded on a farm in Duagh, near Listowel in Co Kerry on Monday afternoon when Michael Carmody died in tragic accident. It is understood that Mr Carmody fell into the pit after being overcome by the noxious fumes. Mr Carmody, of Duagh in Kerry, is predeceased by his brother John and sister Mary. ‘Deeply regretted by his heartbroken family, his wife Margaret, sons Colm and Aengus, daughter-in-law Grace, his adored granddaughters Lucy and Sarah, brother Dan, sisters Catherine, Nora and Margaret, extended family, great neighbours and a wide circle of friends,’ his death notice reads. Mr Carmody will repose at his residence on Thursday evening from 4pm to 8pm. The funeral will arrive at St Brigid’s Church, Duagh, on Friday Morning at 11.15am for 11.30am Requiem Mass. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.’ Another added: ‘Mick was a gentleman and a great neighbour rest in peace Mick.’ A third shared: ‘Sincere condolences to all the family.’ Mr Carmody was pronounced dead at the scene, after he was discovered by Gardaí. He was removed to University Hospital Kerry, where a post-mortem took place. A statement from An Garda Síochána told Extra.ie: ‘Gardaí were alerted to a fatal workplace incident that occurred on an agricultural premises near Listowel, Co Kerry on Monday, 29th May, 2023. ‘A male in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene.
